Virtual Reality

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I finally decided on an accent color for our home.  I am in love with the idea of adding teal, but it also makes me very nervous.  After some frustrating attempts to recreate the painted room on Adobe Illustrator, I stumbled upon Personal Color Viewer by Benjamin Moore.  This is a super fun program that allows you to see the room you are planning to paint using Benjamin Moore colors, prior to painting.

Here is a photo of our current living room:

And here is our living room as imagined by me, using Benjamin Moore’s Personal Color Viewer:

I added on some stone work that we are planning on doing to the fireplace using Adobe Illustrator, but all of the color changes were created using the Benjamin Moore program that I downloaded to my computer.  I originally designed the room using Palladian Blue on the walls and  Sherwood Forest above the mantle, but the colors were too high contrast.  The program allows you to tweak the colors by going a shade darker/lighter until you get the look you want.

Talk about instant gratification!  The next step is to go to the paint store and get some swatches, but seeing the virtual rendering makes me more confident in the direction I have chosen for this room.  I can’t wait to see the paint swatches on the wall!

If you have a color you love from a different paint manufacturer, many other brands of paint also offer virtual simulation programs to see how the paint would look in your very own room.  Here are a few links to some of the major brands:
